Is PayDay safe to connect to my bank?

PayDay never stores your internet banking password. Bank access runs through Akahu, an accredited requestor on MBIE's Register of Participants under the Customer and Product Data Act 2025, New Zealand's open banking law. PayDay holds two permissions only: it can see your transactions, and it can make the transfers you set up in a split rule. It cannot send money to any account you have not nominated. You can revoke PayDay's access from your Akahu dashboard at any time and splits stop immediately.

Can PayDay move my money without my permission?

No. PayDay can see your transactions and make only the transfers you set up in a split rule. It cannot send money to an account you have not nominated, and it cannot change your bank settings. You set the rules, and you can pause or cancel splits at any time in the app.

Does PayDay store my bank password?

No. PayDay never sees or stores your internet banking password. You log in on your bank's own secure page through Akahu, so your credentials stay with your bank. You can add optional two-factor authentication to your PayDay account using an authenticator app or SMS.

Is open banking regulated in New Zealand?

Yes. Bank connections run through Akahu, an accredited requestor on MBIE's official Register of Participants under the Customer and Product Data Act 2025, New Zealand's open banking law. The regime is administered by MBIE and enforced by the Commerce Commission, and you can verify Akahu's accreditation on MBIE's public register.

How do I disconnect PayDay from my bank?

Remove the bank connection in the app at any time and your splits stop immediately. You can also revoke PayDay's access from your Akahu dashboard. If you only want to stop automation for a while, you can pause all splits instead of disconnecting.

What happens to my data if I delete my account?

You can request complete deletion of your data at any time, and you can export everything you hold in PayDay before you do. All data is encrypted with 256-bit AES in transit and at rest, the same standard used by banks and government agencies, and PayDay handles personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act.
