Getting Started
What is PayDay?
PayDay is an automatic pay splitting app designed for New Zealanders. It detects when your salary hits your bank account and automatically divides it across multiple accounts according to rules you set, including savings, bills, investments, or everyday spending.
How do I get started with PayDay?
Getting started is simple: 1) Download the PayDay app from the App Store or Google Play, 2) Create your free account, 3) Securely connect your bank account, 4) Set up your split rules, and you're done! PayDay will automatically split your next pay.
Is PayDay really free?
Yes! Our Free plan is genuinely free forever. You can use PayDay with up to 3 split rules and 1 connected bank account at no cost. No credit card required, no trial period, no hidden fees.
How long does setup take?
Most users complete setup in under 5 minutes. Connecting your bank typically takes 1-2 minutes, and setting up your first split rules takes another 2-3 minutes. You'll be ready before your next payday.
Security & Privacy
Is PayDay safe to use?
Absolutely. Security is our top priority. We use bank-grade 256-bit SSL encryption, never store your bank login credentials, and are regularly audited by independent security firms. Your data is stored securely in New Zealand data centres.
Do you store my bank password?
No, never. We use secure Open Banking APIs to connect to your bank. Your banking credentials are never seen or stored by PayDay. We only receive read-only access to view your transactions and execute transfers you've authorised.
Can PayDay access all my money?
No. PayDay only has permission to view transactions and initiate transfers according to your split rules. We cannot access funds beyond what you've explicitly authorised, and you can revoke access at any time.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
If you choose to delete your account, we permanently delete all your personal data within 30 days. You can also request an export of your data before deletion. We never sell or share your financial data with third parties.
Is PayDay regulated?
Yes. PayDay operates in compliance with New Zealand financial regulations and privacy laws. We're registered with the relevant authorities and follow strict data protection standards including the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
How do you protect against fraud?
We employ multiple layers of security: two-factor authentication, biometric login (Face ID/fingerprint), transaction monitoring, and instant alerts for any suspicious activity. If we detect anything unusual, we'll pause splits and notify you immediately.
Banks & Compatibility
Which banks does PayDay support?
PayDay works with all major New Zealand banks including ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Westpac, Kiwibank, TSB, The Co-operative Bank, SBS Bank, and Heartland Bank. We're constantly adding support for more institutions.
Can I split to accounts at different banks?
Yes! You can split your pay across accounts at multiple different banks. For example, your main account might be with ANZ, but you can split to savings at Kiwibank and a bills account at ASB. All automatically.
Does PayDay work with credit unions?
Yes, we support several NZ credit unions. If your credit union isn't listed, contact us and we'll look into adding support. We're always expanding our coverage.
Can I use PayDay with a joint account?
Yes, PayDay works with joint accounts. Both account holders will need to authorise the connection, and either can manage the split rules. This is great for couples managing household finances together.
What if my bank isn't supported?
If your bank isn't currently supported, let us know! We're actively working to add more banks. In the meantime, you can still use PayDay if your pay goes into a supported bank account.
Features & Functionality
How does PayDay detect my pay?
PayDay uses smart pattern recognition to identify salary deposits. It learns your pay schedule, employer name, and typical amounts. When a matching deposit arrives, PayDay triggers your split rules automatically.
Can I use percentages or fixed amounts for splits?
Both! You can set splits as percentages (e.g., 20% to savings) or fixed amounts (e.g., $500 to bills). You can even mix them. For example, $1,500 fixed to bills first, then 30% of the remainder to savings.
What if my pay amount varies?
PayDay handles variable pay seamlessly. Percentage-based splits automatically adjust to your actual pay. You can also set minimum thresholds to ensure essential bills are always covered before other splits.
Can I pause or skip a split?
Yes! When PayDay detects your pay, you'll receive a notification with a brief window to review, modify, or skip that particular split. You can also pause all splits temporarily from your settings.
Can I set up splits for irregular income?
Absolutely. PayDay works great for freelancers, contractors, or anyone with irregular income. You can set it to detect any deposit above a certain amount, or from specific sources.
Does PayDay work with multiple jobs?
Yes! You can set up different split rules for different income sources. PayDay can distinguish between your main job, side gig, or other income and apply appropriate rules to each.

Troubleshooting
PayDay didn't detect my pay. What should I do?
First, check that your bank connection is active in Settings. If it is, the deposit may not have matched your pay pattern. You can manually trigger a split or adjust your detection settings. Contact support if the issue persists.
A split failed. What happened?
Splits can fail if there are insufficient funds, the destination account details are incorrect, or there's a temporary bank issue. Check your notification for details, and the split will automatically retry. Contact support if it continues to fail.
I need to reconnect my bank. How do I do that?
Go to Settings > Connected Accounts, tap on the bank you want to reconnect, and follow the prompts. You may need to re-authenticate with your bank. Your split rules will be preserved.
Can I undo a split that already happened?
Once a split is processed, the transfers are complete. You'd need to manually transfer money back if needed. However, you can pause future splits or adjust your rules to prevent unwanted splits.
