How We Keep You Safe

Multiple layers of security protect your data at every step.

256-bit Encryption

All data is encrypted using AES-256, the same standard used by banks and governments. Your information is unreadable to anyone who intercepts it.

No Stored Passwords

PayDay never sees or stores your bank password. You authenticate directly with your bank through Akahu's secure OAuth flow.

Read-Only by Default

For monitoring, PayDay only needs read access. We can see transactions but can't make changes without explicit payment permissions you control.

Authorised Payments Only

Transfers only happen to accounts you've explicitly authorised. You control which accounts can receive splits and can revoke access anytime.

Two-Factor Auth

Enable 2FA on your PayDay account for an extra layer of protection. We support authenticator apps and biometric login.

Regular Audits

Our systems undergo regular security audits and penetration testing by independent security firms to identify and fix vulnerabilities.

You're Always in Control

Your data belongs to you. Here's how we ensure you maintain full control.

Disconnect Anytime

You can disconnect any bank account from PayDay at any time. Simply go to Settings and remove the connection. We'll immediately lose access.

You can also revoke access directly from your bank's app or website.

Delete Your Data

Request complete deletion of your PayDay account and all associated data. We'll remove everything from our systems within 30 days.

This includes transaction history, split records, and personal information.

Export Your Data

Download a complete export of your PayDay data anytime. Get your split history, account settings, and transaction records in standard formats.

Available in CSV and JSON formats for your records.

Pause Split Rules

Temporarily pause your split rules without disconnecting. Perfect if you need manual control for a period or want to take a break.

Re-enable with one tap when you're ready.

Your Privacy Matters

We collect only what we need and never sell your data.

No Data Selling. Ever.

We will never sell your personal or financial data to third parties. Your information is used solely to provide the PayDay service.

Minimal Data Collection

We only collect the data necessary to detect your pay and execute splits. We don't need or store unnecessary personal details.

Transparent Policies

Our privacy policy is written in plain English, not legal jargon. We want you to understand exactly how your data is used.

NZ Privacy Act Compliant

We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and follow best practices for data protection and user privacy rights.

Security FAQs

Is it safe to connect my bank account?

Yes. PayDay uses Akahu, New Zealand's regulated open banking platform. Your bank credentials are never shared with PayDay. You log in directly through your bank's secure system, and we receive only a secure token that allows limited, authorised access.

Can PayDay access all my accounts?

PayDay can only access accounts you explicitly authorise during the connection process. You choose which accounts to share, and you can change these permissions at any time.

What happens if PayDay is hacked?

We take extensive measures to prevent breaches, but in the unlikely event of a security incident, attackers would not gain access to your bank credentials (we don't store them). The access tokens we hold are encrypted and can be immediately revoked, preventing any unauthorised access to your accounts.

How do I revoke PayDay's access?

You can disconnect your bank accounts from PayDay at any time through the app settings. You can also revoke access directly from Akahu's website (akahu.nz) or contact your bank to remove the connection.

Does PayDay comply with NZ regulations?

Yes. PayDay operates in compliance with New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020, and our banking partner Akahu operates under the regulatory oversight of New Zealand's financial regulators. We take our legal obligations seriously.
